I bring an empathic, intuitive approach to my practice of adult psychotherapy, working with my clients to identify both their immediate and long-standing internal obstacles. My goal is to help clients reach greater, more nuanced emotional and intellectual clarity about themselves — without oversimplification or rigid categorization. I incorporate perspectives and influences from Psychodynamic, Experiential and Existential schools of psychotherapy. I have been told that my warm and engaging yet thoughtful style helps clients to more fully and authentically experience their own emotional richness. I also have extensive experience and advanced training in working with adults who were sexually abused as children.
During my 30 years of practice, I have helped clients to identify old patterns, to heal their psychological wounds and to overcome the external limitations that often keep them from enjoying life. For 17 years, I served as Director of the Stroger/Cook County Adult Psychiatry Clinic, supervising and training over 150 doctoral clinical psychologists.
Since 2010, I have developed a sub-specialty in treating psychotherapists who are in the early or middle stages of their careers or are involved in their initial training. Many have focused our work together on how abusive childhood events and relationships have influenced their perspective and self-definition as psychotherapists and as people.
